Coronavirus (Covid-19): Guidance for Travelling via Alicante Airport

Health control measures for people arriving from non-EU / non-Schengen countries were discontinued with effect from 21/10/2022.

Health controls for travellers arriving from EU or Schengen-countries were lifted in June 2022.

Before Setting off for Alicante Airport

  • Thoroughly read through all the relevant guidance you have been given by your airline.
  • Check in online if possible, and print off or download your boarding pass.
  • The use of face masks may still be required with some airlines and at some airports. Remember to bring sufficient face masks and disinfectant gel for your journey. Your face mask should be replaced every 4 hours to remain effective.

Coronavirus – Departing from Alicante Airport

  • Ensure you have plenty of time to check-in and pass through the departures security areas with any new procedures in place.
  • If possible, it is recommended that you do not carry hand luggage.
  • Only use a water bottle or container at the airports water fountains.
  • Remember to maintain a physical safety distance of 1.5 metres from other people whenever possible.
  • Depending on your airline, you may be required to wear a face mask when you board your aircraft and for the duration of your flight.
  • Minimise contact with surfaces at the airport.
  • Access to the airport terminal is permitted for travellers and non-travellers.

Covid-testing at Alicante Airport

The Covid test centre at Alicante Airport is no longer operational. Please familiarise yourself with the current entry regulations for your travel destination several days prior to departure. On the Plane

  • Frequently disinfect your hands using your hand sanitizer. Cough on the inside of your elbow.
  • Depending on your airline, you may be required to wear a face mask for the duration of your flight. Please follow the instructions given by the cabin crew.
  • If you begin to experience symptoms during your flight, notify the cabin staff.
  • Limit unnecessary movement within the cabin.
  • Reduce the use of individual overhead air supply vents/nozzles as much as possible.

Coronavirus – Arriving at Alicante Airport

Arrivals from EU- or Schengen-countries

Health controls for travellers arriving from the EU or Schengen-countries were discontinued in June. Travellers from these countries no longer need to provide proof of Covid-vaccination, Covid-recovery or a negative Covid test.

Arrivals from third countries (non-EU / non-Schengen)

On 21/10/2022, health controls for arrivals from non-EU/non-Schengen countries were lifted. Proof of Covid-status (vaccination, recovery or test result) is no longer required.

Arrivals from China

All passengers arriving by air in Spain from the People’s Republic of China may be subject to a health check at the first point of entry. This consists of the following:

1) Temperature control

Temperature monitoring with the help of thermal imaging cameras will be carried out routinely in order to identify travellers with fever. A temperature of 37,5 °C or higher is set as the detection limit.

2) Checking of Covid documentation

All persons arriving in Spain from the People’s Republic of China must have an EU digital COVID Certificate or equivalent to provide proof of the following:

The arriving passenger

  • is fully vaccinated against Covid-19
    OR
  • Has tested negative for Covid-19
    OR
  • Has recovered from Covid-19

3) Random Covid-19 testing on arrival

In addition to the measures listed above, passengers arriving in Spain from the People’s Republic of China may be asked to undergo a diagnostic test for active infection at the point of entry.

Exceptions

The following passengers do not need to undergo health controls:

  • Children under twelve years.
  • Passengers arriving in Spain in transit to other countries, provided they do not leave the airport environment and their stay in Spain does not exceed twenty-four hours.
  • The crews of national and international means of transport necessary to carry out the transport work.

Covid-19 Rules to be Followed at all Times

  • As of 20/04/2022, the wearing of a face mask is no longer mandatory at Alicante Airport.
  • Maintain a distance of 1.5 meters throughout the airport whenever possible. This includes the baggage collection area.
  • Wash your hands at regular intervals for at least 20 seconds with soap and water or, when not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer solutions.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue or into your flexed elbow when sneezing or coughing.
  • For your own protection, please ensure that you minimise contact with any surfaces whilst at the airport or on the plane, at car hire desks or on public transport such as buses or taxis.
