Could Alicante-Elche Airport Finally Get a Train Connection?
Travelling to Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport might become easier in the future. A recent proposal in Spain’s Congress has once again highlighted the need for a direct railway connection to the airport, something the region has lacked for years.
The plan includes building a rail bypass at Torrellano, which would allow trains to stop at the airport on their way between Alicante and Murcia. This would be a major step forward for passengers, reducing travel times and offering a more sustainable way to get to the airport.
Although the proposal has received some political backing, including from regional parties and the PP, it’s still at an early stage. The Spanish government has already committed to some related infrastructure works, but there’s no confirmed timeline yet for when the airport station might be built.
Currently, the airport is only accessible by car, taxi or bus. If approved and funded, this railway project could transform the way both locals and tourists travel to and from Alicante Airport.
