Spain may allow UK tourists to enter without a negative PCR test

Wednesday, May 12th, 2021

The UK government issued their traffic light system for international travel to some European countries. In the list mainland Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands are listed as amber and not on the green travel list. The good news however is that Spain may allow UK tourists to enter without a negative PCR test from May 20 2021.

The Spanish Tourism minister Maria Reyes Maroto said the lifting of entry requirements “will allow the opening of the British market so they can come to Spain.” Spain are working hard with vaccinations which will mean that when the UK reviews it’s traffic light system, it will allow Spain to be listed as a green country to visit. This will enable UK tourists to return back to the UK without having to quarantine upon their return. Arancha González Laya, the Spanish Foreign Minister, said today that she maintains “good” contacts with London so that her country can once again appear on the British “green list”.

The EU is discussing the development of a vaccination certificate that allows the free movement of citizens who have been vaccinated and that will facilitate entry into Spain. Any who have not been vaccinated may only enter the countries but with a PCR test.
